Welcome to My Family History Blog
Welcome
I started this blog as a way to share information with family about our ancestors. I’ve learned so many interesting things through my family history research and it seemed a shame to keep them to myself! However, not everyone is interested in hearing the stories. (I watch for the telltale sign of a listener’s eyes glazing over when I’m recounting something I’ve learned – that’s my cue to shut up.) So a blog seemed like the way to go. If you’re curious about our ancestors and want to hear about their lives, subscribe below. And if you’re not, no worries – I’ll be sure to tell you all about my latest discoveries next time we meet!

My blog posts will be based on themes provided by Amy Johnson Crow’s 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks challenge. Each week Amy provides a different writing prompt for people to use to write about their ancestors. At some point I hope to add a family tree to show the relationships between all the people I’m writing about. Until then, let me know if you need clarification about who fits in where!

My lack of inspiration, however, resulted in a dry…

Understanding the context of your family members’ lives can give you an idea of what events shaped them and help you to “flesh out” what…
Where there’s a will…

In March 2018, I found his probate file from Alcona County, Michigan, on the Family Search website. Although the record included a Petition and Order for the…
